In the 2A Boys Weightlifting State Championships held in Lakeland, Choctawhatchee High School secured their third consecutive state title, with Dawson Newnam and Brandon Stenger achieving record-breaking lifts. Under the guidance of head coach Addison Kendrick, Choctaw made 12 podium visits and won three individual gold medals, solidifying their dominance in the competition. Newnam, a senior standout, set a state record with a 265-pound snatch and went on to win both the Olympic and traditional categories with impressive lifts.
Teammate Brandon Stenger also set a state record with a 300-pound snatch, showcasing a remarkable comeback after missing last year's championship due to injury. With a 650-pound total in the Olympic category and a 670-pound total in the traditional division, Stenger's performance contributed significantly to Choctaw's success. Additionally, Fort Walton Beach's Ty Rounsaville emerged as an individual state champion, securing gold in the 154-pound category and showcasing a strong performance in both traditional and Olympic events. Overall, Choctaw's triumph in the state championship reflects their dedication and skill in the sport of weightlifting.
