Daniel Wiffen secured his third gold medal of the Irish Open Swimming Championships by winning the 1500m freestyle event, falling short of setting a new world record. His winning time of 14:42.71 was not enough to beat Bobby Finke's record of 14:30.67 but was close to Florian Wellbrock's time of 14:38.27. Wiffen's performance also earned him places in the World Swimming Championships in Singapore.
In other events, Larne’s Danielle Hill clinched two national titles in the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke at the Irish Championships. Ellie McCartney triumphed in the 200m breaststroke, while Victoria Catterson set a record in the 200m freestyle. Ellen Walshe also displayed a strong performance, clocking 4:41.86 in the 400m individual medley. Several swimmers, including Wiffen, Hill, McCartney, and Walshe, met the qualifying times for the upcoming World Swimming Championships.
