Olympic bronze medallist Mona McSharry secured her spot at the World Championships in Singapore by winning the 100m breaststroke final at the Irish Championships in Dublin. She clocked a time of 1:06.87, with competitor Ellie McCartney finishing just behind her.
McSharry, returning to competition after the Paris Games, expressed excitement at the close race and the challenge it presented. McCartney, a rising talent in Ulster and Irish swimming, aims for success in the 200m breaststroke and has eyes set on future competitions like the European under-23s and World University Games.
Meanwhile, Olympic champion Daniel Wiffen set a Championship record and achieved a World Championships qualification time of 3:46.87 in the 400m freestyle. He looks ahead to the 1500m freestyle event. Additionally, eighteen-year-old John Shortt from Galway impressed with a record-breaking swim in the 200m backstroke, securing a spot at the World Championships with a time of 1:56.61.
