CAF fines club $100,000 over fan disorder in Champions League

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined Mamelodi Sundowns, owned by Patrice Motsepe, $100,000 for safety and security breaches during an African Champions League match against Esperance. The fan misconduct led to clashes during the quarterfinal, first leg game, resulting in a $150,000 fine for Esperance. Sundowns emerged victorious in the first leg against Esperance and advanced to the semifinals of the competition. Both teams are set to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, with Sundowns drawn in a group with Ulsan, Borussia Dortmund, and Fluminense, while Esperance is grouped with Chelsea, Flamengo, and a replacement team after FIFA disqualified Leon. The Club World Cup, featuring 32 teams, is scheduled to take place in 11 U.S. cities from June 14 to July 13.
