Kyle Larson to Pursue 'The Double' at Indy 500 with Replacement Driver Rule in Place

IndyCar has set guidelines for the use of replacement drivers at the upcoming Indianapolis 500, where NASCAR's Kyle Larson aims to complete the "Double" by participating in both the IndyCar race and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. If Larson is involved in another key event with his primary racing series on Indy 500 race day, a replacement driver may be considered under specific conditions. The replacement must complete a refresher program during the first day of Indy 500 practice, with no additional laps allowed upon completion. Should a team opt for a replacement driver, the car will start from the rear of the lineup, forfeiting its original spot on the 33-car starting grid.

Arrow McLaren and Hendrick Motorsports confirmed Larson's pursuit of the "Double," alongside full-time drivers Pato O'Ward, Nolan Siegel, and Christian Lundgaard. Sporting director Tony Kanaan, the 2013 Indy 500 champion, will be on standby if necessary. In last year's attempt, Larson started fifth in the Indy 500 but did not race in the Coca-Cola 600 due to rain delays at both events, leaving questions about potential contingencies for inclement weather this year.
