Fort Collins native Aidan Thompson has signed an entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks after completing his college career at the University of Denver. Thompson, selected by the Blackhawks in the third round of the 2022 NHL draft as the 90th overall pick, will join the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League on a Professional Tryout for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. The 23-year-old forward contributed significantly to Denver's success, helping the team secure the 2024 national title and advancing to the Frozen Four in 2025.
During his time at Denver, Thompson, who served as an alternate captain, achieved career highs in goals (21), assists (34), and points (55) in the 2024-25 season. His impressive performance ranked him second in points and third in assists nationally among NCAA players. Thompson's roots in hockey trace back to his participation in various youth programs across Colorado, including playing for the Northern Colorado Youth Hockey Junior Eagles program.
