Tennessee safety John Slaughter, a junior defensive back, has expressed his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal, following the departure of redshirt sophomore quarterback Nico Iamaleava to UCLA. Slaughter, who stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs 197 pounds, has played 23 games for the Vols, recording six tackles, 0.5 tackles for a loss, one interception, and a pass deflection. Hailing from Southaven High School in Mississippi, Slaughter received a scholarship offer from Tennessee on June 16, 2021, and committed to the program on June 25, 2022.

The NCAA transfer portal opened on Wednesday and will be accessible until April 25, allowing players to explore new opportunities at different colleges. The Vols recently wrapped up their spring practices on April 12 with the annual Orange & White Game, gearing up for the start of the 2025 football season. Tennessee is scheduled to kick off their season against Syracuse on August 30 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
