Jonathan Batts has been appointed as the new head football coach at Boonville High School, following approval at the Warrick County School Corp. board meeting. A Kentucky Wesleyan College graduate and current English teacher at the school, Batts previously served as a long-time assistant coach under former head coach Darin Ward, specializing in defense. Ward, who stepped down after a successful 10-year tenure, led the team to consistent performances, including a sectional championship in 2018.
Boonville High School's football program, known for its consistency in the Pocket Athletic Conference, achieved a 6-6 record last season but fell short in the Class 4A sectional championship. The team will rely on returning standout players, including Grant Davis, Tyler Klaner, Axton Hudson, and Nolan McKinney, all recognized as All-Pocket Athletic Conference selections. This coaching change marks one of several football leadership transitions in Southwestern Indiana this offseason, with Batts joining a new cohort of coaches in the region.
