Former Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava is seeking a new college football team following his departure from the Vols ahead of the 2025 season. Initially predicted to join North Carolina under head coach Bill Belichick, it was later announced by On3 that the Tar Heels are no longer pursuing Iamaleava, favoring South Alabama QB Gio Lopez instead.
Iamaleava, who started all 13 games for Tennessee in 2024, boasts a record of completing 213-of-334 passing attempts for 2,616 yards and 19 touchdowns. Additionally, he accumulated 358 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 109 rushing attempts during his time with the Vols. Tennessee had a successful 2024 season, finishing with a 10-3 record (6-2 SEC) and making their first-ever appearance in the College Football Playoff.
As the search for his next college football team continues, Iamaleava's future in the sport remains uncertain following his departure from Tennessee and the subsequent change in interest from North Carolina.
