Southern Boone High School in Ashland, Boone County, has appointed Tyler Tanner as its new head football coach for the 2025 season. Tanner, a former offensive coordinator at Westran with a background in baseball coaching, brings a decade of experience to the role. Under his guidance, Westran consistently scored over 25 points in six out of nine seasons, with the team finishing 8-3 last year averaging 28.6 points per game. Tanner takes over from Mark Ross, who departed for Marceline High School.
Southern Boone Athletics Director Trent Tracy expressed enthusiasm for Tanner's appointment, citing his track record, dedication to student-athletes, and commitment to program development. Tanner himself is eager to uphold the school's tradition of success, highlighting the community support, strong leadership, and hardworking ethos within the program. The Eagles, who posted winning records in the past two seasons (8-3 in 2023, 6-5 in 2024), are set to kick off the upcoming season on Aug. 29 with an away game against Odessa, followed by matches against Mexico and California.
