Manchester United Women are set to participate in a new lucrative seven-a-side football tournament at the end of the season. The team, under Marc Skinner's leadership, has shown impressive form this year, reaching the FA Cup final and currently standing third in the Women’s Super League.
The tournament, known as World Sevens Football (W7F), will feature eight teams, including Manchester United and Bayern Munich. The event, scheduled for May 21-23 in Portugal, offers a substantial prize pool of £1.9 million for the winners, significantly surpassing other major women's football competitions. Despite concerns about player welfare, the tempting prize money is likely to see United fielding a competitive team in the shortened format tournament, funded by philanthropist Jennifer Mackesy.
