Jaguars Meet Versatile Cal Lineman Xavier Carlton Online

The Jacksonville Jaguars virtually met with Xavier Carlton, a versatile defensive lineman from Cal, per Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda. This meeting was not an official 30 visit, as the Jaguars are conducting pre-draft interactions virtually this offseason under GM James Gladstone's direction. Carlton, who offers scheme and position versatility on the defensive line, measured 6-0 and 273 pounds, showcasing a Relative Athletic Score (RAS) of 5.64.

While Carlton primarily played as a defensive end at Cal, he also has experience as a defensive tackle. In the 2023 season, he displayed strong pass-rushing abilities with 55 pressures, though his production slightly declined in 2024 with 37 pressures. Carlton's improved finishing skills led to an increase in sacks from three to seven. Despite some issues with missed tackles and penalties, his potential contributions to the Jaguars' defensive line, a position group in need of reinforcement, make him a Day 3 draft consideration. With his knack for playing multiple gaps, Carlton could fit well in Anthony Campanile's adaptable defensive scheme. Though currently projected as an undrafted free agent, Pauline suggests that Carlton should be on the radar for Day 3 selections in the upcoming draft.
