Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy was found dead in his car on Saturday night in Houston, following a pursuit by authorities. The Harris County Sheriff's report states that Lacy, 24, died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Prior to the incident, police responded to a call reporting that Lacy had discharged a firearm during an argument and fled the scene in a vehicle. The pursuit concluded when Lacy crashed his car, after which he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lacy had been facing legal issues related to a fatal car accident in Louisiana in December, where he was accused of causing a crash that resulted in the death of a 78-year-old man. He was charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run with death, and reckless operation of a vehicle. Lacy turned himself in to authorities in January and was released on bail. A grand jury was scheduled to begin reviewing evidence in the case soon. Lacy's attorney expressed confidence that a thorough review of the investigation would lead to a declination of charges.

Kyren Lacy was an accomplished football player, having declared for the NFL draft in December. He participated in LSU's pro day and was once ranked as a top receiver prospect. During his three seasons at LSU, he caught 58 passes for 866 yards and nine touchdowns. LSU, in a statement, expressed condolences to Lacy’s family and loved ones. His father, Kenny Lacy, emphasized the importance of mental health awareness among young people in a social media post.
