The University of Colorado has officially retired the jersey numbers of quarterback Shedeur Sanders (No. 2) and two-way star Travis Hunter (No. 12) in a ceremony at Folsom Field. Sanders and Hunter, who transferred from Jackson State, made significant contributions in their two seasons at Colorado, with Sanders setting over 100 school records and Hunter winning multiple major college football awards. The ceremony took place at the start of CU’s annual spring football intrasquad game on Saturday, with both players expected to be first-round NFL draft picks after helping the team achieve a 9-4 record in 2024.
Sanders and Hunter join the ranks of only four other players in CU football history to have their numbers retired: Byron White (No. 24), Joe Romig (No. 67), Bobby Anderson (No. 11), and Rashaan Salaam (No. 19). White, Romig, and Anderson were all inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, while Salaam also won the Heisman Trophy during his time at Colorado. The retirement of Sanders and Hunter's jersey numbers marks a rare distinction in the program's 135-year history, highlighting their exceptional impact on CU football.
