In June 2024, Ryan Cooper and his group face treacherous conditions while attempting to climb Peru's Huascarán. Despite numerous obstacles, including avalanches and rockslides, they decide to turn back due to the extreme danger. During their descent, Cooper discovers a frozen body on the mountain, later identified as American climber William Stampfl, who had disappeared 22 years prior. Cooper contacts Stampfl's family, providing closure and rekindling their connection.
Stampfl, an avid mountaineer, had a passion for climbing that led him to attempt challenging peaks like Huascarán. His disappearance in a 2002 avalanche left his family with unanswered questions and lingering hope. Cooper's discovery and subsequent efforts to assist in bringing Stampfl home culminate in a poignant final farewell on Mount Baldy, where his ashes are spread, providing closure and warmth to his loved ones.
