Boxing makes a return to the Corn Palace in Mitchell this Saturday, April 19, with an amateur event organized by 15th Round Boxing from Sioux Falls. The event will showcase amateur boxers from various regions, including Minneapolis, Chicago, Omaha, and Colorado, gathering at the historic venue for an evening of bouts.
The resurgence of boxing at the Corn Palace follows a lengthy process of planning and coordination by the Giovanis brothers, who founded 15th Round Boxing in 2015. After encountering pandemic-related gym closures and considering relocation, the brothers settled in Sioux Falls and expanded their operations to include hosting boxing events. This upcoming event, though initially planned as a professional boxing showcase, will feature competitive amateur fights, highlighting the dedication and talent of the participating boxers.
The event aims to engage the Mitchell community with a diverse range of activities and provide a platform for boxers to showcase their skills in a sanctioned setting. With plans for potential recurring events in the future, the organizers hope to inspire youth participation in boxing and promote physical fitness within the community. Tickets for the event are available for purchase online, with doors opening at 4 p.m. and fights commencing at 5 p.m., offering attendees an opportunity to witness amateur boxing talent in action at the historic Corn Palace.
