St. John’s University recently welcomed Oziyah Sellers, a 6-5 shooting guard transferring from Stanford. Sellers, who averaged 13.7 points per game and boasted a 40.1% success rate on 3-point shots during his last season, joins the Red Storm roster. Head coach Rick Pitino commended Sellers for his experience, sharpshooting skills, and positive attitude, stating that his on-site performance was impressive.

Having started in all 35 games during his sole season at Stanford, Sellers brings his talents to a St. John’s team that struggled with a 30.1% 3-point shooting accuracy, the lowest in the Big East. Pitino expressed satisfaction with Sellers' shooting capabilities following a recent workout session. Sellers reunites with former high school and USC teammate Vince Iwuchukwu, who is entering his second season as a center for St. John’s.

The addition of Sellers marks one of three transfers made by St. John’s during the current offseason, along with Joson Sanon from Arizona State and Bryce Hopkins from Providence. All three newcomers averaged over 11.9 points per game in their previous seasons, aiming to compensate for the departure of top scorer RJ Luis Jr., who moved on to the NBA Draft and transfer portal. With the backcourt still evolving, especially in the point guard position post the departure of Kadary Richmond and Deivon Smith due to NCAA eligibility limits, St. John’s is reportedly eyeing UNC guard Ian Jackson to further strengthen their lineup.
