Shocking: Kings GM McNair Fired After Play-In Loss

By Scores.wiki Staff · March 25, 2026 at 09:36 PM ET

The Sacramento Kings and general manager Monte McNair have mutually agreed to part ways, following their 120-106 home loss to the Dallas Mavericks in the play-in tournament game. McNair, who had been with the Kings for five seasons, received the NBA executive of the year award in 2023 for leading the team to their first playoff appearance in 16 years with a 48-34 record.

During McNair's tenure, the Kings achieved three consecutive seasons with 40 or more wins, a significant improvement from their previous performance. Before McNair took over, the Kings had struggled with a .362 win percentage, which improved to .488 under his leadership. McNair's departure comes shortly after assistant GM Wes Wilcox left to become the general manager of the University of Utah's men's basketball team, marking another change in Sacramento's front office.
