Former Detroit Pistons player and executive Joe Dumars is set to join the New Orleans Pelicans as their president of basketball operations, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. Dumars, a Hall of Famer, brings a wealth of experience from his time with the Pistons, where he won three NBA championships as both a player and executive.
The Pelicans' move to bring in Dumars comes after the departure of former head basketball executive David Griffin, following a disappointing season that saw the team finish with the fourth-worst record in the NBA. Dumars, a Louisiana native who played college basketball at McNeese State, will now return home to take on a new leadership role with the Pelicans.
