The Sacramento Kings are set to bring back long-time NBA executive Scott Perry as their new general manager, according to sources. Perry, who began his executive career with the Detroit Pistons in 2000, previously had a brief stint with the Kings in 2017 before moving on to the New York Knicks. He will be taking over the position from Monte McNair, who mutually parted ways with the Kings following the team's season-ending loss to the Dallas Mavericks in the play-in tournament. Perry has also held front-office roles with the Orlando Magic and the former Seattle SuperSonics.
During McNair's five-year tenure as Kings GM, he received the NBA Executive of the Year award in 2023, leading the team to a 48-34 record and breaking a 16-year playoff drought. Under McNair's leadership, the Kings achieved three consecutive seasons with 40 or more wins, a significant improvement compared to the franchise's performance prior to his tenure. McNair's departure follows assistant GM Wes Wilcox's recent move to become the general manager of the University of Utah's men's basketball team after spending five seasons with the Kings' front office.
