Memphis guard PJ Haggerty, the nation's third-leading scorer, has entered the transfer portal, marking his departure from the Tigers for the upcoming season. The 21-year-old redshirt junior will be transitioning to his fourth program in four years, having previously been at TCU and Tulsa before joining Memphis.
Haggerty, a 6-foot-3 guard, averaged 21.7 points per game for Memphis and garnered AAC player of the year and second-team All-American accolades. Notably, he scored 42 points in a single game during the AAC tournament, tying a conference record. Haggerty's decision to transfer likely stems from seeking new opportunities, be it in terms of NIL compensation or enhancing his national profile, given his exceptional scoring abilities, which are expected to draw significant interest in the transfer portal. Under Haggerty's leadership, Memphis secured the AAC regular season and conference tournament titles, finishing with a 29-8 record for the season, despite bowing out in the NCAA tournament's first round to Colorado State.
