DeJuan Wheat, a former standout player at the University of Louisville and a professional basketball player, has been appointed as the new head coach for Simmons College, a Division II program. Wheat, a Louisville native, brings a wealth of basketball experience, having played in the NBA and internationally, as well as coaching stints at various levels.
Wheat's basketball career includes a successful collegiate run at Louisville, where he garnered All-American recognition and set records for points, three-pointers, assists, and steals. Despite being drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1997, Wheat found success playing overseas before transitioning to coaching. He previously coached at IU Southeast and Valley High School, contributing to their respective successes on the court.
Replacing Tony Branch, Wheat will now lead the Simmons College Falcons following their recent seasons of 6-22 and 8-16. With his deep ties to the local basketball community and a proven track record in coaching, Wheat's appointment signifies a new chapter for Simmons College basketball under his guidance.
