The Honesdale Biddy Basketball Association, established in 1965-66, saw significant growth in the 1970s, evolving from a small organization based in the Honesdale Catholic High gymnasium to a larger league with 16 teams and over 160 players. Led by initial president Freddie Reisch and a group of volunteer coaches, the association transitioned to various locations before settling at Lakeside Elementary.
The Celtics team of 1976-77, coached by Maurice Meagher and John Komar, was a prominent contender in the Biddy Basketball championship race. Featuring future high school stars like Jeff Cimahosky and Mike Tuman, the Celtics were part of a vibrant youth basketball scene where traditional attire like T-shirts, tube socks, and Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers were popular. The league's growth and the success of teams like the Celtics marked a significant period in the association's history.
