Former Lady Vols basketball guard Avery Strickland has committed to Belmont after spending two seasons at Tennessee and playing her freshman year at Pittsburgh. Strickland, a Knoxville native, had a limited role during her time at Tennessee but started to see increased playing time towards the end of coach Kim Caldwell's first season. She entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer on April 3 and has one year of eligibility remaining to play for Belmont, which placed third in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Strickland is one of two Lady Vols who have entered the transfer portal this offseason, along with fifth-year senior Favor Ayodele. In her time at Tennessee, Strickland appeared in 39 games over two seasons, averaging 5.8 minutes, 1.9 points, and 1.3 rebounds per game while shooting 43.8% from the field this season. A standout athlete in multiple sports at Farragut, Strickland led her high school to its first state tournament and state championship appearances, winning a softball state championship as a junior and becoming a state medalist in track as a senior.
