Tyler Mahle led the Texas Rangers to a 4-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels, striking out nine batters over six innings and allowing only three singles. Mahle, with a 0.92 ERA in four starts, returned strong after Tommy John surgery in May 2023. Angels' starter Yusei Kikuchi also pitched well, striking out six over six innings but was outmatched by Mahle's performance.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Texas manufactured their first run as Leody Taveras's bunt single and steal led to a run on Marcus Semien's sacrifice fly. The Rangers extended their lead in the seventh with back-to-back doubles by Jonah Heim and Kyle Higashioka, and Josh Jung added an RBI single in the eighth. The Angels, held scoreless for the first time this season, missed a key opportunity in the fourth inning with runners on the corners, but Mahle's consecutive strikeouts of Travis d'Arnaud and Nolan Schanuel thwarted the threat. Texas improved to 7-1 at home after a successful return from a 1-5 road trip, setting up the next game with right-hander José Soriano pitching for the Angels against the Rangers' left-hander Patrick Corbin.
