Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado each contributed two RBIs as the San Diego Padres defeated the Chicago Cubs 4-2. Nick Pivetta pitched six solid innings for the Padres, who extended their record to 15-4, leading the NL West with 12 wins out of 13 home games. The Cubs, at 12-9, previously won two out of three games against the Padres at Wrigley Field.
Tatis and Machado drove in runs off Matthew Boyd in the third inning, with Machado adding another RBI in the seventh and Tatis drawing a bases-loaded walk in the eighth. Pivetta allowed one run and struck out six in his winning performance, while Boyd was charged with two runs over 5 1/3 innings. Robert Suarez secured his eighth save as the Padres closed out the game. Machado's clutch hits with two outs proved pivotal, and Tatis maintained a streak of reaching base in all 18 games he has played this season.
