Rockies DH Kris Bryant Sidelined Again - Back Injury Sends Him to IL

Colorado Rockies designated hitter Kris Bryant has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to lumbar degenerative disk disease, a chronic back issue. The 33-year-old Bryant, who signed a seven-year, $182 million contract prior to the 2022 season, has struggled with various health problems, limiting his playing time to just 170 games since joining the Rockies. Bryant's current back injury adds to a list of previous ailments, including plantar fasciitis, a broken finger, and heel issues, contributing to his declining performance compared to his peak years with the Chicago Cubs, where he was an NL MVP and helped win the 2016 World Series.

Manager Bud Black emphasized the need for Bryant to manage his back issues carefully to prevent further setbacks. Bryant's absence adds to the Rockies' challenges this season, as they have struggled with a poor record of three wins in 11 games, the worst in the major leagues. In Bryant's limited appearances this season, he has posted a batting average of .154 with no home runs and 13 strikeouts. The team has called up catcher Braxton Fulford from Triple-A Albuquerque to fill Bryant's roster spot, as right-hander Jeff Criswell was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
