The Cincinnati Reds have placed first baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand on the 10-day injured list due to low back inflammation. Encarnacion-Strand, who has been struggling with the issue, will receive treatment to address the discomfort. In his place, infielder Noelvi Marte has been recalled from Triple-A Louisville to fill the roster spot.
Encarnacion-Strand's injury comes after playing only 29 games last season due to a right wrist fracture. This season, he has posted a batting average of .158 with two home runs and five RBIs in 18 games. The Reds have various options to cover his absence at first base, including Jeimer Candelario, Spencer Steer, who is nearing a return from a shoulder problem, and utility man Santiago Espinal, who can also handle the position.
