Pittsburgh Pirates' Endy Rodriguez landed on the 10-day injured list due to a lacerated right index finger sustained during a game against Washington. The injury occurred when Rodriguez was hit by a pitch in the dirt, requiring five stitches. As a result, the Pirates have recalled Chase Shugart from Triple-A Indianapolis to fill the gap.
Rodriguez, who has split his time between first base and catcher this season, holds a .178 average with two RBIs. With Rodriguez sidelined, the Pirates face a shortage at both positions, with only Henry Davis available as a healthy catcher. In the meantime, Abrahan Gutierrez has joined the team but has not been added to the active roster. The team has had to adjust by utilizing Enmanuel Valdez at first base while regular first baseman Spencer Horwitz recovers from hand surgery.
