Two paratroopers were injured during a pregame ceremony at the University of Arizona's Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, Arizona, as part of Arizona Baseball Military Appreciation Night. Video footage circulating on social media captured the soldiers making hard landings, with one soldier carrying an Arizona Wildcat flag and the other a U.S. flag, both experiencing rough descents and subsequent impacts. The Tucson Fire Department confirmed that the soldiers were swiftly transported for treatment, with one sustaining a dislocated shoulder and the other a back injury, but both are anticipated to fully recover. The safety team responsible for the parachute landing is investigating the incident to determine the cause of the rough landings.
University spokesperson Jason Corriher stated that although wind conditions were within acceptable limits during the jump, the safety team is still investigating the unfortunate occurrences. Corriher noted that the parachute safety organizer attributed the incidents to "terrible luck." Following the incident, the Arizona baseball team expressed their support and gratitude to the injured paratroopers and the first responders who provided assistance during the ceremony.
