Florida State University has canceled all home athletic events through Sunday following an on-campus shooting that resulted in one fatality and six injuries. Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare reported one individual in critical condition and five in serious condition, with a suspect currently in custody.
The university issued an alert advising individuals to shelter in place after an active shooter was reported near the student union. As a precautionary measure, the athletic department promptly called off all events from Thursday through Sunday, aligning with the suspension of classes for all students until Friday.
Among the affected events were the No. 7 Seminoles baseball team's three-game series against Virginia and the No. 4 softball team's anticipated home series against Georgia Tech. FSU's decision reflects a commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of its community members in light of the tragic incident.
