Cincinnati Reds outfielder Elly De La Cruz is expected to wear the Nike Griffey 2 MCS Jackie Robinson Day cleats on April 15 to honor the baseball legend. The cleats feature Ken Griffey Jr.'s Swingman logo and "42" logos representing MLB teams. Every player across the league will wear No. 42 on their jersey and hat in tribute to Robinson, a tradition initiated by Griffey.
Teammate Hunter Greene, also a Nike client, will likely join De La Cruz in sporting the commemorative cleats. In 1997, MLB retired Robinson's number on the 50th anniversary of his debut, with Griffey voluntarily switching to No. 42 in honor of the Hall of Famer. The initiative to have all players wear No. 42 on Jackie Robinson Day was announced by then-Commissioner Selig in 2009.
