Cubs send top prospect Matt Shaw to Triple-A after rough start in rookie season

The Chicago Cubs have decided to send top prospect Matt Shaw to Triple-A Iowa due to a disappointing start to his career as a rookie third baseman. Shaw, the No. 13 pick in the 2023 amateur draft, has struggled with a 10-for-58 performance, including one home run and three RBIs, along with 18 strikeouts in 68 plate appearances.

In other roster moves, the Cubs placed right-hander Eli Morgan on the 15-day injured list because of an elbow impingement. To fill the gaps, infielder Vidal Bruján was reinstated from the 10-day IL, and right-hander Nate Pearson was sent to Iowa. The team also recalled left-hander Luke Little and right-hander Daniel Palencia from Triple-A. Despite these changes, the Cubs were leading the NL Central with an 11-8 record, although they lost ace Justin Steele to a season-ending left elbow injury.
