The Los Angeles Angels signed veteran reliever Héctor Neris to a minor league contract and placed him on their Arizona Complex League team after he was recently designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves. The 35-year-old right-hander had a challenging start with the Braves, allowing five runs in two outings during their opening series in San Diego. Neris previously served as the Philadelphia Phillies' closer from 2017 to 2019, amassing 65 saves, and showcased a strong performance with the Houston Astros in 2019 with a 1.71 ERA in 71 appearances. The Angels made this move to bolster their bullpen, which currently ranks 29th in the majors with a 6.11 ERA.
