Mississippi State baseball starting third baseman Ace Reese was not in the lineup for the April 15 game against Southern, as he was seen wearing a boot on his left foot during warmups at Dudy Noble Field. Reese, a sophomore transferred from Houston, leads the Bulldogs in home runs (12) and RBIs (43). Gehrig Frei took Reese's place at third base for the game. There has been no official announcement on Reese's status, although he has played and started in 35 out of 36 games this season, including the recent series against Alabama where he hit a home run in the Sunday game.
Reese holds a batting average of .309 this season with 12 home runs, 43 RBIs, and a 1.031 OPS. Frei started in his place against Southern, with Sawyer Reeves being the only other player to start at third base this season. The situation with Reese remains fluid, and updates will be provided as they become available. Sam Sklar covers Mississippi State baseball for the Clarion Ledger.
